About this event

Community • Heritage

A millennium ago, England’s first Jewish community was established in the City of London, and their vast, long-forgotten cemetery lies directly beneath today’s iconic Barbican. Recent research has revealed its likely boundaries and astonishing scale: the remains of over 10,000 people may rest beneath this iconic modern estate.

This compelling story is the subject of our new exhibition and immersive installation, held on the historic site itself in the City of London, the world-famous Square Mile.

The exhibition which runs from 5th to 19th September, 10 am to 5 pm daily, is the work of The Jewish Square Mile Project, supported by St Giles Cripplegate, the Corporation of London, City of London School for Girls and Culture Mile BID
