Module 1 – PM overview and Introduction to scheduling

In this module, attendees will look at the role of the Production Manager - how the role differs across individual companies and genres, but is essentially the same. There is no singular route into the PM role, and you will look at a range of grades that can move up, or across to PM. This first module is aimed at giving a full overview of the role in all contexts, covering:

  • Pre-production
  • Production
  • Post production
  • Delivery stages and what you will have to do across whichever film/project you work on.

You will understand how to identify key departments and the roles within them throughout a production. We will look at the key relationships between PM’s, HoDs and Producers and understand the interdependency of roles, and how each impacts the other. Critically you will learn the importance of communication to get the best from everyone.

We will look at movie magic scheduling and complete a practical exercise to break down a drama script into “elements” and create an effective and efficient schedule. We will look at key considerations for what is required in a scheduling including shooting formats, implications for the production and how to work with post production to ensure deliverables are achieved, reporting and clearances.

The module is delivered in an interactive manner, with practical based exercises to get you working through multiple possible scenarios as well as training in use of Movie Magic, its component parts and usability, and how you can make the most of the programme to support shooting schedules, ensuring maximum information input to make shoots as effective as possible. As part of this process you will look at the helpful production features for PM’s, enabling you to create schedules quickly and effectively.

Fel PM, mae eich ffocws yn gweithio gyda'r gyllideb i gyflawni nodau'r timau creadigol. Defnyddir enghreifftiau o ffilm go iawn i roi trosolwg o'r lefelau o gyllidebau y gellir eu defnyddio ar draws gwahanol genres, ac i edrych ar sut y caiff y cyllidebau hynny eu dadansoddi i lefel uwch ac yn is na'r costau llinell. Bydd hyn yn rhoi cipolwg i chi o ble mae costau cynhyrchu gwirioneddol a pha mor gyflym y gall costau godi ar draws cynyrchiadau mawr. Bydd y gweithgareddau'n cynnwys edrych ar ffynonellau cyllid ac incwm/buddsoddiad ar gyfer y ffilm nodwedd, ynghyd â golwg ar gymhellion rhyddhad treth a'u cymhwysiad, a bondiau cwblhau.
