Rhododendron Removal
Overview
Over the winter TCV will be running a series of Saturday volunteer days in the National Forest.
This session will involve Rhododendron bashing! We will be removing this invasive, non-native species from areas within the woodland to promote new and biodiverse vegetation growth!
Rhododendron ponticum is an invasive, non-native species that was introduced to the UK in the 1760's and was left to take over. The species has adapted exceptionally well to our climate and is very good at spreading through wind-borne seeds (one plant can produce several thousand seeds every year) and through vegetative means. It is vital to remove it because it is very good at spreading, but also because it is evergreen and no woodland flora will grow underneath it, which in turns prevents any woodland regeneration.
- The sessions will start at 10am and finish no later than 3pm
- TCV provide all tools, PPE and relevant training/ supervision on the day. Please wear suitably sturdy footwear
- There is an online Volunteer form which you will initially need to complete before attending. I will send you the link when you book on.
- We do not allow Chainsaws or other Power tools
- We also provide tea & coffee and biscuits, but please bring your own lunch and any other refreshments!
- Unfortunately there are no toilets on site
