Event description
Explore your voice, rhythm, movement and drumming skills in a safe and friendly environment!

About this event

In this 3 hour workshop we will:

- Explore moving to music, finding its flow, its beats and rhythms

- Use our body as a percussion instrument, then transposing it to the drum

- Drumming techniques. Call and response games.

- Explore what we can do with our voice, improvise a music piece and integrate it with the drumming and/or body percussion.

For more than 10 years Elizabeth Nott has been facilitating percussion workshops, mainly Middle Eastern, focusing on the frame drum and darbuka. She has integrated body percussion, vocalization of rhythms and movement as tools to complement the learning of the instrument and the learning of music in general.

More recently, Elizabeth has incorporated the exploration of the voice as a tool for deeper connection with the Self and the people and the environment around us. This, together with the beating of a drum, creates an integral, safe and fun platform where people can bring forth their own melodies and rhythms, and in doing so, relate to themselves in a very different way, discovering other aspects of themselves they were not aware of, or just nurturing them.

Rhythm & Voice (formerly known as "Song & Beat") is the result of these years of exploration with the voice and rhythms with the drum, more especifically, the frame drum. The frame drum was, and still is, used in various traditions as the main percussion instrument for their ceremonies, rituals and festivities. It allows also the person to play while he/she moves and/or dances.

Come along, bring your frame drum if you have one and/or other small percussions and inmerse yourself in this wonderful journey!
