Event description

Description

Introducing the RIBA Book Club. This inaugural event will be introduced by RIBA President Ben Derbyshire in the new Members Bar at 66 Portland Place.

For the launch, we bring together two of the leading proponents of Postmodernism, Sir Terry Farrell and Adam Nathaniel Furman: the co-authors of Revisiting Post-Modernism. Farrell is an award-winning international architect and planner responsible for infrastructure and master planning projects worldwide, who delivered some of the most seminal Postmodern buildings of the 80s and early 90s: TV am (1981), Alban Gate (1988), Charing Cross (1991) and the MI6 Building at Vauxhall Cross (1994). Furman is one of the foremost designers of his generation, creating colourful architecture, interiors, sculpture, installations and product designs with an unrivalled exuberance and vitality.

Postmodernism evokes strong emotion. It is simultaneously one of the most exalted and vilified movements. Why at the close of the 20th century in the wake of an unyielding Modernism was it so transformational and liberating? How might it still have the power to stir up the status quo and invigorate architectural debate and design?

As an attendee of the event you will be able to purchase Revisiting Postmodernism at a discounted price of £25 – a saving of £10. Once you’ve bought your ticket you will receive a confirmation email with the discount code. This can be used at the checkout on ribabookshops.com or in the Bookshop at 66 Portland Place.
