Description

This seminar will explore listed building consent requirements, procedures in achieving them, through the use of RIBA Plan of Work 2013. Since carrying out work to a listed building without consent is technically a criminal offence, it is important to have a good understanding of what does and what does not require consent.

Subjects covered in this session will include:

  • Listed Building

    • What is it?

    • When did it start?

  • Primary Legislation in England and Wales

    • What buildings does it apply to?

    • Which parts of the building does it apply to?

    • Are all parts of the building treated the same?

    • Significance and sensitivity analysis

  • LBC process:Relation to other legislation?

    • What works need LBC?

    • What works don’t need it?

    • How do you get it?

    • How long does it take?

    • What does it cost?

  • NPPF Guidance and advice

  • Beneficial use

  • Historic England and other guidance

  • Buildings, historic artefacts and archaeology: conservation is not the same as preservation.

  • Overview in relation to the RIBA Plan of Work.

The seminar will include a workshop on how to use Heritage Gateway to identify heritage assets near your site, and what to do with that information.

Speaker: Anna Joynt, Allies and Morrison
Anna Joynt is a member of the RIBA Conservation Group, an accredited Specialist Conservation Architect on the RIBA Conservation Register, and listed on the register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation. She trained at Cambridge University and at the Architectural Association where she completed the Diploma in Buildings Conservation in 2006. She is an associate director at Allies and Morrison, which she joined in 2011. Her work ranges from conservation reports, to design and detailed repair works for historic building projects.
