Event description

Description

RIBA Gloucestershire is delighted to invite you to a breakfast talk and tour of Llanthony Secunda Priory with Caroe & Partners. The £4m project, supported by a £3.2m Heritage Lottery Fund grant, will see three of Llanthony’s listed buildings sensitively restored and brought back into use, extensive landscaping of the 5 acre grounds, and the creation of a new courtyard garden which will complete the restoration.

Llanthony Secunda Priory was founded in 1136, and was home to a small community of Augustinian canons. At its peak around 1500, Llanthony Secunda was wealthier and more powerful than its sister house, Llanthony Prima in Monmouthshire. However, by 2007, all six of Llanthony Secunda’s Grade I listed buildings were on the ‘Heritage at Risk’ register, and in 2007 the Llanthony Secunda Priory Trust was formed.

Rob Lister, Project Architect at Caroe & Partners, will provide guests with an overview of the fascinating site's history and development project over breakfast at Bills Restaurant, before we walk to Llanthony Secunda Priory, where we are very privileged to receive a tour of one of Gloucester's iconic historical buildings.
