Event description

Description

RIBA Gloucestershire are delighted to invite you to a building talk, tour and afternoon tea at the recently completed Walled Garden at the Museum in the Park, Stroud with Austin Design Works.

The pavilion was conceived as a discovered artefact, patinated and worn yet also sparkling like hidden treasure, and formed the first phase of building works. Fully glazed to the south, and with a window seat to the west, the building opens its wide sliding doors onto a limestone terrace and the gardens beyond, offering a large day lit room suitable for a wide range of purposes.

The main building is set 3.5m below the pavilion building and the landscape proposal included an outdoor lift and stair to provide access to the new building and a basic cruciform design in the walled garden, including an orchard area.

Austin Design Works are to provide us with a talk and tour of the building, discussing the challenges they faced with the constrained site, managing stakeholder expectations (public funding and private donations), but also how they overcame these challenges to provide a solution that seamlessly integrates the landscape and buildings together, unified in their conception, materials and details as a single design.

The event is free for RIBA Members thanks to the kind sponsorship of the RIBA Local Initiative Fund
