Event description

Description

RIBA London Pratice Clinic - Legal

RIBA London's Autumn series of Practice Clinics aim to provide support for small practices on a range of topics, tackling tricky questions, problems and dilemmas with a panel of experts.

The event will be interactive, allowing for attendees to pose questions to the panel and offer their own advice and experience.

The format is simple, if you have a hit a hurdle with a legal issue or problem this event will aim to solve it. Submit your question when you book your ticket and we will put it to our experts and your peers to discuss.

The Panel:

Mark Klimpt, Partner at DWF Law

Mark Klimpt has been a partner in DWF (formerly Fishburns) for more than thirty years, and specialises in both contentious and non-contentious construction matters. He is the head of the practice's Non-Contentious Contract Advisory Service working within the insurance sector, advising consultants of all disciplines as well as contractors on their professional liabilities, but with a specialism for architects.

He has extensive experience of all types of dispute resolution from conciliation and mediation, through adjudications, expert witness determination to arbitrations (both domestic and international) and litigation in a number of jurisdictions. He has represented architects, both defending them against claims and promoting fee recovery actions, throughout his professional career, with clients ranging from some of the largest practices in the country, to sole practitioners. Mark is also a special adviser to RIBA, providing legal advice to RIBA members calling the RIBA legal helpline and has been involved in the preparation of a succession of RIBA standard appointment and construction documentation.

Richard Francis AWW

Richard is a Chartered Architect with 35 years post qualification experience. As Project Architect, Team Leader, Associate and Director with AWW he has been responsible for office, further and higher education, defence, energy sector and hotel buildings ranging in contract value from £0.5 million to £50 million. Since this time
he has been responsible for all insurance and legal issues within the practice, negotiating appointments, warranties and similar contractual agreements with a wide range of client groups. In 2006 Richard was elected Practice Director by his fellow Directors, with responsibilities for Human Resources and Commercial matters to
his legal remit.

His interest in all legal aspects of practice has led to him taking on expert witness assignments where his 30+ years experience of contract administration, certification, design and specification of materials, budgetary control
and variations stand him in good stead. He is objective, considered and even-handed in his approach to expert report writing. He is accredited on the UK Register of Expert Witnesses, the RIBA Expert Witness Register and is an Individual Member of the Expert
Witness Institute.

James Burgoyne Brunel

James joined Brunel in 2009 and heads up the Technical and Claims Department to ensure all our clients receive award winning risk management and claims servicing.
