RIBA Social and Tour: QEH Bristol 'Old and New'

Architecture – Drinks – Canapes - Talks – Tour - Conversation

FREE for RIBA members*

You are invited to the RIBA Bristol & Bath Late Summer Social at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) at Clifton, Bristol for a social evening including talk and tours of the listed buildings and new Science and Art Building by Quattro Design Architects. With canapés, prosecco, and fruit juices courtesy of our sponsors Ibstock.

QEH is an independent school in Clifton, Bristol, England founded in 1586. The Queen is the School's patron, although QEH is named after its original patron Queen Elizabeth I. Known traditionally as "The City School", QEH was founded by merchant John Carr in 1586, gaining its first Royal Charter in 1590.

Quattro Design Architects was selected by QEH to design the new Science and Art Building on a steeply sloping site adjacent to listed school buildings and scheduled ancient monuments and overlooking a listed Victorian terrace. The project was completed in August 2016 receiving high acclaim from both the school and contractor for overcoming initial design challenges and for its intelligent use of natural materials and building form, which complement and enhance its historically sensitive setting. Quattro implemented their knowledge of BIM modelling throughout this project.

Our evening will start with a welcome from headmaster Stephen Holliday after arrival canapés, prosecco, and fruit juices in the Dining Room. We will then enjoy a unique tour of the existing listed buildings, concluding at the new Science and Art Building with input from architect Joyce Clifford, bursar Rod Cook, and project manager Clive Woodford.

We will also be joined by Chair of Governors David Smart, and Estates Bursar Sarah Bryant.

The results of the RIBA Bristol and Bath #ribacaptureyourcity Photography Competition will be announced by Ian Lander of sponsors Ibstock.
