About this event
As conservation architects, you understand the importance of stewardship in preserving the fabric of our historic buildings, not just as heritage assets, but as living testaments to our shared history, culture, and identity. Cathedrals are among the most significant of these, bearing centuries of worship, craftsmanship, and community life within their walls.
John will share with us the process and legal framework behind the care and conservation of Rochester Cathedral. It will provide an overview of the specific governance structures in place for Church of England cathedrals, offering valuable context on how such historic buildings are maintained. Attendees will gain insight into the ongoing responsibilities involved in caring for a site of this scale and significance.
In addition to setting the legal and procedural scene, the session will provide background on the history and architectural importance of the Cathedral itself. Over the past ten years, a wide range of conservation work has been carried out, and the talk will highlight key projects that have supported the preservation and continued use of the building.
Looking to the future, details of the next phases of work that are already in planning. These upcoming projects reflect the ongoing commitment to safeguarding Rochester Cathedral for generations to come. This talk is ideal for those interested in heritage, architecture, and the practical realities of maintaining a historic landmark.
