Description

2012: OLYMPICS: 2 CITIES, 2 BIDS, 2 BROWNFIELD SITES, READY AND WAITING

2018: REGENERATION: A SPRINKLING OF ICONS AND A LOT OF HOUSING.

London and Paris designers compare their experiences at our evening event:

West London Architects, a branch of the RIBA London Region spans the London Boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Westminster.

Franco-British Union of Architects is a long established society of french and british architects dedicated to the sharing of architectural knowledge, experience and culture.

At this event hosted in the RIBA Forum, we will be exploring how the two capital cities tackled the regeneration of the sites selected for the 2012 Olympics.

We’ll look at the role of planning authorities, master planners and design guides, and see what we can each learn from the experience.

Speakers include:

LONDON - Alison Brooks, Alison Brooks Architects

Alison has become a public voice for the profession advocating the role housing as civic building, the resurgence of building craft and the use of timber in architecture. Her housing at New Hall Harlow is an exemplar of how to achieve high quality design for developers in a challenging new town.

PARIS - Christelle Avenier – AVENIER CORNEJO architects

Christelle Avenier graduated from the ENSA Paris Malaquais, where she met Miguel Cornejo, founding their own firm in 2006. Projects include a competition winning project in Valparaiso, a hostel at Porte des Lilas with Chartier Dalix, and social housing in Paris. Awards include Europe 40 under 40, 2014 & AR Emerging Architecture, 2017.

Jonathan has taught at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, for nearly twenty years.
