RICARDO BOFILL LECTURE
Tue 13 June 2017, 19:00 – 20:30 BST
Ricardo Bofill, is renowned for his extensive body of work and ever-changing design aesthetic. Born in 1939, Bofill is a graduate of the Barcelona University School of Architecture and the School of Geneva. In 1963 he gathered a multidisciplinary group in order to confront the complexity of architectural practice: architects, engineers, planners, sociologist, writers, film makers and philosophers, creating the basis for the interdisciplinary firm Taller de Arquitectura (Architectural Workshop).
Looking back over fifty years of experimentation, Bofill has outlived Structuralism and other trends -ranging from the utopias of the sixties to classical revivalism, from Postmodernism to Deconstructivism, Minimalism and Conceptual Art. Bofill has amassed more than 1000 buildings in cities ranging from Lisbon and Boston to Tokyo and St. Petersburg. His architectural approach has evolved across decades and he is one of few architects who has continuously worked with success internationally.
