The beers and pizzas are on us! (Other drinks/refreshments also available).

January talk details:

Title: From Neurons to Learning Machines

Description: In 2011, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen claimed that “software is eating the world”. Yet in many ways the revolution is just getting started. Machine Learning is re-defining how software is built, and greatly expanding its capabilities.

Join us for a whirlwind tour of this exciting field as we journey from examining how our brains adapt, learn and process information, to exploring how we can make computers do the same. See how video games led to the rise of deep learning, and just what this mythical technique is all about.

Whether you’re interested in learning how to craft your first Machine Learning model, wondering how you might employ them in your business, or just want to see what all the fuss is about, come along to find out more. (Mathematical genius not required!)

About the Speaker: James is the founder of Quantyr, a company researching and building tools for machine intelligence. Having received his first computer at the ripe old age of three, wondering why we couldn’t interact with them like people sparked a lifelong fascination with neuroscience and artificial intelligence.

At Durham where he was studying Maths and Physics, James was building a ray tracing engine to study optical distortions due to gravitational lensing when his lit review hit upon the recent advances in deep learning. Suddenly all the effort learning how to write code for GPUs didn’t seem like such a bad thing!

Following graduation he spent a period as a consultant software engineer building systems ranging from sensor data analysis to internet broadcasting, before recently deciding it was time to go all-in on trying to make a dent in the machine intelligence problem.

Richmondshire Tech Meetup runs the third Wednesday of the month. If you can't make this one, check out our future events!

We are always interested to hear from techies who have a talk or tech activity they want to share. Please get in touch - techmeetup@thecitysecret.academy
