Meet our Speakers

Session Chair: Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh - University of Bath

Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh is an environmental psychologist, specialising in perceptions and behaviour in relation to climate change, energy and transport. She is Director of the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST). Her research projects have included studies of energy efficiency behaviours, waste reduction and carrier bag reuse, perceptions of smart technologies and electric vehicles, low-carbon lifestyles, and responses to climate change.

Professor Mark Miodownik - Big Repair Project

Mark Miodownik is the UCL Professor of Materials & Society. For more than twenty years he has championed materials science research that links to the arts and humanities, medicine, and society. Mark also recently launched the Big Repair Project to study the lifetime of appliances and electronics in peoples’ lives. Increasing repairability will be as much social, cultural and economic change as it is technological. The Big Repair Project allows citizens to get involved in how they want this change to happen.

Dr Żaneta Muranko - CE-Hub

Żaneta is an Impact Fellow at the CE-Hub. She is a practitioner, researcher and educator in design engineering and human behaviour in the circular economy. She specialises in product and system design engineering, human behaviour, and circular production and consumption models.

Stephen James - Office for Product Safety and Standards, BEIS

Stephen James is Lead Engineer at the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) at BEIS. OPSS was created in January 2018 to deliver consumer protection and to support business confidence, productivity and growth. They regulate a wide range of products with a focus on their safety and integrity. As a member of the engineering and technology team, Stephen provides technical advice to support the work of OPSS policy makers and enforcement.
