Description

An evening of rioutous fun!

A Night of Live Music, Local Ales, Good Food, Dance, throw in a little bit of local history and its going to be a RIOT... Quite literally!

We are taking you back to the 1st of December 1885, around 400 mat workers of Glemsford were very annoyed (to say the least) that they did not have their own polling station in Glemsford and were forced to march 4 miles to Long Melford to vote. Around 400 men gathered on the green in Long Melford showing their support for the liberals by wearing yellow and waving banners They then proceeded to riot causing havoc and smashing windows, a number of people were injured and properties ransacked including the Crown pub. Around 40 special constables were drafted and the Riot Act read but still the Glemsford men continued to fight, eventually a telegram was sent for reinforcements and a number of military soliders arrived from Bury St Edmunds by train.

Our evening starts at The Angel Pub in egremont street were you will be able to sample 'The Rioters' ale brewed specially for us by Nethergate brewery
