The Department of Politics and International Studies is pleased to present Maria Alyokhina as the closing keynote for the 2017 "Gender and the Political Academy" conference.

Alyokhina is a member of the feminist punk group Pussy Riot, and spent two years in prison for a conviction of hooliganism following a performance in Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in 2012. Alyokhina will be drawing on her own experience to discuss women in the penal system.

Tickets will be a £2 donation at the door, to go to Mediazona, an independent online media organisation dedicated to promoting human rights: https://zona.media/
