About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

It's becoming more and more critical that we transition the entire global economy towards Net Zero.

A difficult enough task without making sure we do it fairly.

From the individual who doesn't want to give up their cheap flights or petrol powered car, to whole countries that simply don't have the resources to shift their manufacturing and power generation to cleaner alternatives.

But we really don't have a choice.

And we as a region face the same challenges, so this gathering is an opportunity to hear from those who are taking these steps.

But also for you to explore how you can play a part, because we are all in this together.

Speakers include -

Peter Liddell

Principal Manager - Low Carbon Growth and Net Zero, NECA.

The North East Combined Authority has made a firm committment in it's growth plan to grasp the opportunity that net zero presents to the North East. This includes not only a transition to a green economy, creating thousands of jobs and reducing carbon emissions, but building and adopting the new technologies and solutions needed for the UK to decarbonise too.

But we all have a role to play in this, and Peter will set out what we can all do to achieve this goal.

Professor Ian Head,

Dean of Research and Innovation, Newcastle University

Newcastle University is a lead partner in the Northern Net Zero Accelerator which drives innovation in low-carbon energy, storage, and end-use integration to decarbonise the North East, Teesside, and Humber region. This £5m programme brings together universities, industry, government, and the public to support projects and activities to realise an equitable transition to net zero.

Ian will describe how you can get involved in this programme and play your part

Further speakers will be announced soon.

Rise and Design lasts for approximately three hours, and includes networking before and after speakers. There is a chance to pitch at the end of the speakers' presentations, and you can book a stand for the whole event. We encourage all delegates to stay after presentations for networking - it is one of the most valuable parts of Rise and Design.

Design Network North supports innovative companies, helping them to utilise high quality design skills and processes.

We accomplish this by offering specialised product design, industrial design and new product development support.

Good design is the key to future competitiveness. At a time when product quality standards are universally high and costs have been driven relentlessly downward, design and improved functionality have become the most important factors in the marketplace.

Intended to enhance regional companies’ ability to employ high-quality design, skills and processes, Design Network North works closely with other regional, national and international design projects, and helps those without access to the relevant design skills, achieve their aspirations for growth. Design Network North also holds regular networking events, 'Rise & Design', and delivers onsite Design Performance Workshops to embed good design within your business.

The Northern Design Centre is a  regional focal point for use of design by North East England’s businesses and service providers. Throughout each year, the Design Centre will feature work not just from local product designers but examples from all areas of design.

Funded by the EUropean Union, the network is co-ordinated by RTC North Ltd in Sunderland.
