Through the RISE contract, funded by the Department for Education, the Council for Disabled Children (CDC) conducted a SEND workforce survey, designed to understand workforce learning needs and identify key content for new training. One of the themes identified in the survey was a want for better understanding of the Equality Act.

This training is for education practitioners and will provide an overview of the Equality Act (2010) in relation to disabled children, and its application in education settings, covering:

An overview of legislation on SEN and Disabilities in education settings.
What practitioners need to know and do to address inequalities and ensure they do not discriminate against disabled children and young people and those with SEN.
Reasonable adjustments that create an enabling environment so children and young people can thrive in educational settings.
How Equality Act duties sit alongside other requirements on providers, including the Early Years Foundation Stage, Ofsted and curriculum requirements.

This training is suitable for education practitioners who want to understand more about the Equality Act and other key legislation and what they need to do to meet the requirements of such legislation.
