About this event
Rising in the Body - Somatic Movement / Dance / Nature Connection
outdoors somatic movement explorations offering a nurturing space for nature connection and embodiment.
THUSDAYS
From October 2nd · 11am · 12:30pm
The Salisbury Centre, 2 Salisbury Road Edinburgh EH16 5AB
These sessions bring together somatic movement, nature connection, dance and take place in the beauty of the Garden at Salisbury Centre or indoors when we need to shelter from the strong rain/cold. With plenty of opportunities for reflection and movement explorations, these sessions are open to everyone and can help to support the body-mind agility, resilience, and develop our sense of embodied ecology and nature connection.
With a focus on individual awareness and creativity, anyone is welcome to deepen their connection with nature, their body and experience the joy of movement. Sometimes, with eyes closed, lying and moving on the ground, use vocalization and visualization techniques or hands-on touch to meet and explore our relationship with gravity, our anatomical structures and body systems. This creative process allows us to explore movement, space, our own creativity, and resilience while relating to others and the environment. During the sessions we are all responsible for creating a safe and inclusive space where everyone feels welcomed and comfortable. This session takes a person-centered approach, integrating personal processes with the offered exploration.
We offer a space for nature connection to nourish the individual's sense of relationship with the natural world, encompassing how we think, feel, and experience nature, moving to a deeper emotional bond and awareness of being part of the natural system.
We wear comfortable clothes and layers (including waterproof ones, something we don't mind if it will get a little muddy) to adapt to the possible changes in weather. If the weather becomes disruptive, we can use the indoor space (The Art Room or Studio). Feel free to bring your water, snacks, and a notebook if you'd like to make notes or draw during the session. We will also provide drawing/writing materials.
