If we are courageous with our professional and personal lives, it is inevitable that we will sometimes fall. This workshop, facilitated by Roxanne Hobbs, considers what it takes to get back up again - an ability cited as a key component of resilience by most psychologists. Using the research and curriculum of Brené Brown*, these two evening workshops (with a 1:1 90 minute coaching session in between) teaches a process through which to recover and learn from those 'face down' moments. The goal of the process is to rise from our falls, overcome our mistakes, and face hurt in a way that brings more wisdom. It is actually those that know that they can easily rise again that are able to be the most courageous.
The format of the workshop is two separate evening sessions (maximum of 12 people) with a 1:1 skype coaching session with Roxanne in between the sessions.
9th May 6pm – 9.30pm - Act 1 THE RECKONING
How do we know when we are having a 'face down' moment? Our culture teaches us to carry on regardless and ignore the hurt, but at what cost to ourselves, to others and to our learning? The start of the Rising Strong process is about getting very clear on what is going on in our inner worlds. This first workshop explores the idea of 'The Reckoning' - that is establishing we have been hooked by an event and what our go to thoughts, feelings and behaviours are.
Act 2 THE RUMBLE
You will have a 1:1 90 minute Skype coaching session with Roxanne Hobbs to explore 'The Rumble'. This is a chance to explore in detail a face down moment of your own, get to grips with any stories, conspiracies and confabulations you are telling yourself, and instead start to write your own story and ending. You will leave the coaching session with a clearer understanding of how you respond to difficulty, heightened understanding of your particular fall and tools / techniques that you can refer back to and use again in the future.
23rd May 6pm – 9.30pm - Act 3 THE REVOLUTION
The final piece of Rising Strong is taking your insights and learnings, and integrating them in to how you live your life. This section will summarise some of the key rumble topics and show how these can lead to greater insight and wisdom, and ultimately a different approach to handling adversity in your lives. If they are willing, Roxanne will invite some of the women who have had a coaching session to share their insights and learning via a creative project.
The course will be facilitated by Roxanne Hobbs (CPCC, ACC, DWF). Roxanne is the founder of The Hobbs Consultancy, which was born out of a sense that corporations must be able to do more to support women through key transitions in the workplace. Working at Managing Partner level in the media industry, she saw for herself the challenges that women face – specifically in the step up in to leadership and also through maternity.
Dr. Brené Brown Ph.D. LMSW is a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past twelve years studying vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame. She is the author of two #1 New York Times bestsellers; Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead (2012), and The Gifts of Imperfection (2010).
