Risking It All: Multi-Dimensional Reading
Overview
You enter the library and meet a million beings. How do you come out?
Using bibliomancy and scrying, two methods of divination, we will delve into the Strange Exchange library to find companions in the books of their developing collection. We will talk about risk inside and outside the academic institution, DIY learning spaces, and taking up a fugitive position to learn in ways that unfold possibilities for liberation.
We’ll practice some tools for divining esoteric knowledge from books, and try out overwriting our chosen texts to leave parts of ourselves in the library. Bring your questions, curiosities and worries for the books and all else will be revealed (or not).
Rabindranath X Bhose is an artist and mover based in Glasgow and hailing from London, Scotland, France, India and Brussels. His work circles around the figure of the ‘gender fugitive’ and the queer potentials of the bog. Recently, he performed ‘To see(k) from inside the body, from every fertile channel’ at Supernormal 2025 and collaborated with boggy friends Oren Shoesmith and Belladonna Paloma to make ‘Corpores Infames: Disreputable Bodies’ at Glasgow International 2024. He is a graduate of School of the Damned DIY Art School and is currently studying for an MFA in Creative Practice at Trinity Laban Conservatoire with Siobhan Davies Studios in London. He is also a coordinator of Earthworm Sangha meditation community for disabled, chronically ill and neurodiverse people and a trustee of artist-run space Market Gallery.
Strange Exchange Forum is a series of free creative workshops for and by artists working with alternative art education and creative learning.
The first iteration of the series explores themes around queer nature, embodiment and collective learning practices. Each artist will lead a session that draws connections to the library, sharing insight into their research and practice, asking what it means to learn and teach as an artist.
