RiverLife Explorer Workshop: Photographic Printing - Afternoon session
Event Information
About this Event
Join artists Annie Lord and Morvern Odling for a skills based workshop creating visual material for a series of sculptures which will mark the new fish passes installed on the River Almond.
Together we will look back in history, exploring the ways in which industry has sculpted the riverbank and impacted the wildlife. As the new fish passes are completed we look forward to a thriving river ecosystem. .
In this workshop you will make a series of cyanotypes - an early form of photography. We will create our own negatives using drawing, collaging and stencils - no previous artistic or photographic experience necessary, these workshops are based on exploring, testing and experimenting! Your finished artworks will influence the next stage of the project - a series of public artworks along the River Almond.
Cyanotypes are made by exposing pre-prepared paper to sunlight, when the paper turns a beautiful cyan blue where the light touches the surface. This technique originated in the 1840's and was used by the scientists and botanists of the day to produce records of plant life, drawings and other objects.
Feedback from previous workshops:
“Loved the session.”
“I’m not artistic in the slightest so it was amazing to create beautiful cyanotypes and to contribute to the river project.”
“Knew it would be fun but not this much fun!”
Please note that there are two sessions on the 30th of November but only sign up for one as they are repeated in the morning and the afternoon.
