Event description

Description

The Royal Musical Association Music and Philosophy Study Group (RMA MPSG) was first established in May 2010, after a Royal Musical Association Study Day, in association with the British Society of Aesthetics, on the topic of Music and Philosophy held at King’s College London on 20th February 2010.

Our aim is the following: To provide a distinctive, long-term forum offering opportunities for those with an interest in music and philosophy to share and discuss their work, in the hope of furthering dialogue in this area.

We work towards this goal through four courses of activity:

(i) Multi-day conferences
(ii) A series of smaller events
(iii) A presence at other events
(iv) An on-line presence centered around a website and mailing list

Our main, multi-day conferences are held biannually at King's College London, and this year's conference from 11th-12th July 2019 will be the largest yet, with over 80 speakers including 3 keynote talks. The draft programme is available on the MPSG website: http://musicandphilosophy.ac.uk/events/mpsg-2019/.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of: the Royal Musical Association; the British Society for Aesthetics; King's College London; Oxford University; the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, Cambridge; and the journal Music, Sound and the Moving Image.
