RNIB Inclusive environments for people with sight loss

The RNIB Health and Social Care Training team will deliver a CPD workshop exploring principles that can be reasonably applied to home, working and public places and that can support wayfinding and useability for people with differing levels of sight loss. This will support organisations to work towards and maintain the legal requirements of the Equality Act 2010 in making reasonable adjustments to environments, providing equitable access for a wider group of people.

It is suitable for anyone responsible for applying design into social housing, healthcare settings, offices and other similar environments.

Refund policy:

No refund will be issued if you cancel your booking or if the event is cancelled. The Health and Social Care Training team will however provide alternative dates for the workshop should they need to cancel the session.

David Watkins - Visibly Better Spaces Co-ordinator

David Watkins has led RNIB Cymru’s certified Visibly Better Living scheme, which supports organisations to develop and maintain accessible environments for 15 years. In his role as Visibly Better Spaces Co-ordinator he advises and supports social landlords, hospitals and offices to create environments which enable blind and partially sighted people to access buildings, use facilities and get around. Visibly Better’s cost-effective design approach can help reduce the risk of injury and improve independence and wellbeing.

David says he is passionate about creating more accessible environments for blind and partially sighted people because he has seen first hand the positive impact that inclusive design has on people in terms of how they feel about their home or workplace and importantly, moving around the environments with increased confidence.

Qualifications:

HND (Distinction) Building Studies

Currently completing National Register of Access Consultants qualification
