About this event

  • Event lasts 30 minutes

RNIB Health and Social Care Training team will deliver a taster session that will highlight the fundamental design principles that can be reasonably applied to home, working and public places and that can support wayfinding and useability for people with differing levels of sight loss. These design principles are encapsulated in our RNIB Visibly Better Spaces certification which will also be discussed during the session. This taster session is suitable for health and social care professionals and outlines what you could cover in the full course offered by the team.

Contact the team at HSCtrainingteam@rnib.org.uk if you have any accessibility requirements.

If this date is not suitable or you would like to find out about other taster sessions we deliver, please visit this webpage for more information: RNIB Health and Social Care Skills training events calendar.

About your trainer:

David Watkins, RNIB Visibly Better Spaces Co-ordinator

David has led RNIB Cymru’s certified Visibly Better Living scheme, which supports organisations to develop and maintain accessible environments for 15 years. In his role as Visibly Better Spaces Co-ordinator he advises and supports social landlords, hospitals and offices to create environments which enable blind and partially sighted people to access buildings, use facilities and get around. Visibly Better Spaces cost-effective design approach can help reduce the risk of injury and improve independence and wellbeing.

David says he is passionate about creating more accessible environments for blind and partially sighted people because he has seen first hand the positive impact that inclusive design has on people in terms of how they feel about their home or workplace and importantly, moving around the environments with increased confidence.
