About this event

The Castle 2 Castle Swim is an iconic one mile open water sea swim across the Carrick Roads. It starts at Pendennis Castle in Falmouth and finishes at St Mawes Castle on the Roseland Peninsula.

This popular event is strictly limited to 500 swimmers and is open to anyone over the age of 14. Please note, participants should be intermediate or experienced open water swimmers.

Registration for the swim is £30 and while we ask everyone to pledge to raise at least £70 through sponsorship, being the RNLI's 200th anniversary it would be amazing if you were able to raise £200, one pound for every year our volunteers have been saving lives.

The swim is an absolutely fantastic event largely run by volunteers, without whom it wouldn’t be possible. It promises to be great fun with a fantastic atmosphere, so do come along and get involved.

If swimming isn't your thing but you would still like to be involved, please get in touch as there are many volunteering opportunities available on the day.

Please read our Terms and Conditions, as well as the event specific terms and conditions below. You will need to agree to these as part of the sign up process.

  • You must be at least 14 years of age on the day of the event to enter.
  • You will provide and wear your own wetsuit at the event. No swimmer will be allowed in the water without a wetsuit on. We recommend wearing a swim-specific wetsuit, which will provide extra buoyancy and warmth
  • You must be able to swim at least one mile in open water conditions.

You must attend the safety briefing before the start of the swim.

Frequently asked questions

As the swim finishes on the other side of the Estuary what happens to our clothes and other items

Your bag with clothes and other esstential items will be transported by road to the St Mawes side. At registration you will be given an ID band with your swim number to attach to your bag. You will be required to place the bag in the van at least one hour before the start of the swim.

What about our shoes?

You will be asked to wear flip flops or similar footwear to get down to the start beach. You will be provided with a ID band with you swim number to attach to the shoes which you will be asked to put in the numbered baskets provided. These will be taken across to the finish beach by boat.

How do we get back from St Mawes?

You will be provided with a discount voucher for the St Mawes Passenger Ferry. There is parking provided at both sides. Full details on transport and parking will be included in the swimmers pack which is sent out by e-mail 10 days before the event date.

Will we be able to get our swim time?

You will be provided with a timing tag to wear on your ankle. This will be activated at the start and you will cross an electronic mat at the finish which will record your swim time. You will be provided with a web link to check your time. A time clock will also be displayed at the finish.

Why do we need to wear a wet suit?

All swimmers are required to wear a wet suit. Despite it being early summer the sea temperature is still low and the guidance for open water swimming events is that wet suits should be warn. Your safety is paramount and wearing a wet suit will reduce the risk of hypothermia.

What time will we need to turn up for the swim?

Registration on the day will open at 8am and close at 10.30am. Swimmers will be given the opportunity to pre-register on the Saturday and pick up their swim pack, this is encouraged as it will reduce queues on the day and means you will not need to arrive until 9.30am. Further details to follow.
