RNLI Jersey VIP Station Tour Experience

You’re invited to take part in a very special VIP behind-the-scenes experience at St Helier Lifeboat Station. This is not your normal station tour. This experience will get you closer to the volunteers at St Helier as you see up close the impressive engineering of RNLI lifeboats and the hard work and dedication it takes to be a lifesaver. What’s more, the price of your ticket will help fund their lifesaving work.

Your VIP Package includes:

  • A unique 90-minute tour of the lifeboat station. See the lifeboat(s) up close and get inside the kit room where the crew get ready to save lives.
  • An expert to guide you behind the scenes, explain how the station works, and answer any questions you have about the RNLI.
  • A free hot drink in the crew room where you will hear some exciting rescue stories from the volunteers at the station.
  • An exclusive pin badge with the name of the lifeboat station, as a precious memento of your VIP experience.
  • A certificate of thanks from the crew at St Helier as gratitude for making a visit to their station and for all your support of their work.

Useful Information

The format and content of the tour may vary, dependant on the tide and weather conditions in the local area. Whilst we will endeavour to provide access to the boat(s), this will only be undertaken when weather and operational conditions permit and it is safe to do so.

As the station is operational, should a lifeboat be called out, or the station facilities are required for an emergency, we reserve the right to cancel the visit if necessary, for the safety of visitors and station volunteers.

You will be asked to provide a mobile phone number when booking tickets in the event a visit needs to be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice. Tours will start at the beginning of the slot booked, please feel free to arrive on site 10 minutes before the start time.

If you have any questions please get in touch by email. We kindly ask that you do not contact the lifeboat station directly.

Frequently asked questions

How long will the tour last?

The tour will last approximately 90 minutes including the welcome tea/coffee.

Where can I park?

There are several public car parks in the immediate area, please do not park in the 'RNLI' spaces reserved for our crew.

Are refreshments provided?

Tea & Coffee is available at the start of the experience, our crews often enjoy a catch up over a cuppa so we feel it’s only right to extend this tradition to our VIP guests

Are there toilet facilities available?

Yes, toilet facilities will be available for VIP tour guests.

What should I wear?

We recommend you come dressed appropriate for the weather conditions on the day of your visit. Whilst most of the tour will take place inside, some areas of our operational lifeboat station are exposed to the elements. Sturdy shoes or trainers are also recommended.

Is the lifeboat station and tour suitable for wheelchair users?

Our lifeboat station does not have a lift to the first floor where large parts of the tour takes place so unfortunately this experience is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs or with significant mobility issues.

How many people will be on each tour?

The tour is limited to just 8 people to ensure that everyone gets the most out of the experience.

Can I bring a child?

We recommend the tours for ages 14+ and all attendees require a ticket to attend regardless of age. As our lifeboat stations are operational environments, we have strict polices in place to ensure your safety and that of our crews. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

What happens in the case of inclement weather?

Our tours run in most weather conditions, but should any localised weather warnings be in force we will be in contact about any alterations or postponements.

Will I be able to go out on the lifeboat?

We're sorry but as our lifeboats must be ready to respond at any moment this isn't possible.

Will I meet crew members?

We certainly hope you’ll get to meet some of our crew whilst at the station but we cannot guarantee this. Our brave crew are volunteers and give up their time selflessly when called upon, but many also have full time jobs and other commitments. We hope you understand this.

Why are you running these tours?

We’ve always offered visits to lifeboat stations, often for schools and other formal groups, but we believe everyone should have the opportunity to see the inner workings of our fascinating Lifeboat Stations. All profit from ticket sales will go towards funding our lifesaving work.

I've visited St Helier station before for free, why are you now charging?

These tours are perfect for anyone wanting a longer tour with even deeper insight into how our lifeboat station operates and serves the local area. The VIP tours offer a smaller group size, exclusive merchandise and light refreshments at the start of the tour.

Am I guaranteed to see the lifeboat(s)?

We certainly hope you’ll get to see our Lifeboats as part of your VIP visit, but our stations are fully operational 24/7 so we can never predict when our brave crews will next need to head out to sea. If for any reason the lifeboats are on service during your visit we will allow you to rebook.

Can I get a refund if I am no longer able to make it?

We’re able to offer refunds with greater than 14 days notice of your visit. The team delivering these tours are volunteers and they plan their time around ensuring you have a great experience.
