About this Event

ROAM THE WATER WAY CHALLENGE

Hello everyone, we are challenging you to march with us on the 12th of October 2019 from Bishop Auckland Town centre 15 miles up the water way to Durham City centre.

All funds will be Donated to the YMCA to educate children and young adults on water safety #ROAMSafely

For £25/ per ticket includes:

  • Your YMCA sponsorship
  • Net-Walk opportunity
  • Completion T-Shirt
  • Entry into a prize draw at the end of the challenge

This is a challenge to dig into the benefits that the outdoors can bring to your mental health and to ultimately remember those who have fallen in the river and lost their lives. The objective is to spread awareness of river safety so woman and men of all ages can appreciate & understand the devastation that can be caused to families a like when accidents do occur .

The water way Challenge will be lead by John Beamson who is an Ex Soldier and now founder of Robustours (https://www.robustours.co.uk/) and Andrew Bartlett Founder of the ROAM-Everywhere app - a Safeguarding Travel companion (www.Roam-Everywhere.com)

WHY WE ARE DOING THIS

In Durham City, Sope Peters drowned in 2013, Luke Pearce died in 2014 and Euan Coulthard in the January 2014, All had been on nights out. In 2014 there where 3 people who died in York River in a space of 8 days, including Megan Roberts. Most recent was Luke Jobson from Yarm who was tragically found in Yarm River after a night out (2019).

This is a clear problem that we would like to address and make a movement toward supporting and spreading further awareness to everybody, not just students to be safe and responsible when near water.

This will be an adventure to remember as the journey up the water way is full of iconic landmarks such as Bishop Auckland Castle, The Kynren Set, Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle and more - So bring your cameras!

Our app has safety alerts as it recognises behaviour anomalies (falling in a river would be an anomalies) and will send your chosen group of mates a safety alert with your location and lastly 3. our ROAM find my friends feature remembers your last known location if your phone battery was to die or you just simply break it - all features are optional when downloading our app but ultimately designed to create a safety net so you can go out and ROAM every destination with Knowledge & Safety, download here at: www.ROAM-Everywhere.com
