Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Older adults have told us that they can feel quite trapped in a world of appointments, tablets and isolating housing and without companionship and valuable relationships, they can feel quite ambivalent about staying alive let alone looking after their health or taking exercise.

We explored this topic with a group of older people and senior professionals from NHS, Scottish Government, Trading standards and GCU School of Health and Life Sciences. There was unanimous agreement that older people may hold the key to creating motivating messages to help encourage or even inspire their peers to Stay Mobile in order to Stay Connected.

Roar’s participative film making group gets under way in November. The participants are all older adults who have been selected based on their willingness and interest in all aspects of this project. They will be enabled to express what is important to them in later life, share their experiences of overcoming physical and physiological challenges and how this has enabled them to continue to have company and companionship beyond the walls of your home.

The film that they produce will be launched at this Fire Starter Festival event.

Those with an interest in Falls Prevention, Community Safety, Tackling Loneliness and Social Isolation or Community Empowerment would find this event particularly useful.
