Description

Robert Burns Poetry Workshop

Come and get your bairns into Burns with our fantastic poetry workshop at St. Giles’ Cathedral!

Children aged 5-12 will be able to hear some Burns poems, learn about his life and write their own Burns inspired poem in this hands-on workshop. We’ll look at some of Burns poems, write out our favourite words on our very own red, red rose and write an ode to something important in our lives.

Thw workshop will be lead by Catherine Wilson, local poet and performer and one of the organisers of Edinburgh’s collective “Loud Poets”.

1pm - 2pm: Poetry Workshop

The workshop will cover Burns from the basics to encouraging kids to write for themselves. It will give children an introduction to his poetry through poems such as: “Up in the Morning Early”, “To a Mouse”, “A Red, Red Rose” and more before encouraging them to think about his words. Participants will then be able to create and decorate their own poem, from an acrostic or fill-in-the-blanks poem, to getting them to write about something they love!
