Description

BritishBlackMusic.com/Black Music Congress presents as part of BBMM2017: Rock Music Is Black Music (Kwaku)

From the faces of the exponents of rock music it's very difficult to imagine, let alone believe that, rock music is black music. In this audio-visual presentation, music industry and history consultant Kwaku will show how the rock music rose from the Rhythm & Blues of African-Americans in the late 1950s, to its globalisation through the adoption by English groups in the 1960s.

Today, apart from Jimi Hendrix, and perhaps Living Colour, Slash and Lenny Kravitz, how many more African acts can one name who are widely recognised as rock acts? This presentation will highlight several unknown or less obvious acts - we'll definitely be talking about Skunk Anansie, Thin Lizzy, Bloc Party, Noisettes, The Thirst, Body Count, and the group named Death! It's likely to be revelatory and looouud!

He may not be British, but we nevertheless dedicate this event to the memory of Chuck Berry, who has a special segment in the presentation.
