Roelof Temmingh - solo piano

Roelof Temmingh presents a solo piano programme of Beethoven and Medtner. The Op 31 No 3 Sonata by Beethoven is one of the most upbeat, joyful sonatas in his oeuvre. Medtner, a great friend of Rachmaninoff’s, singled out Beethoven as his only true teacher of composition, making this unification very apt, and the upbeat nature of the Beethoven extends into the dance rhythms of some of Medtner’s Forgotten Melodies Op 38, where others take us into a more melancholic, contemplative place.
