Event description

Description

Jennifer Duffy (Archivist)

In September 2016 Edinburgh City Archives was awarded a National Cataloguing Grant to catalogue its holdings of police records, deposited over a period of 20 years. The collection spans over 200 years of police history and not only provides a fascinating insight into policing but also shines a light on the concerns and pastimes of ordinary people in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

This talk will discuss some of the highlights of the collection which are now available to the public as a result of the project, including the criminal photograph albums featured in the National Records of Scotland and Edinburgh City Archives exhibition ‘Rogues Gallery: Faces of Crime 1870-1917'.
