Romans vs. Picts 5k + Great Roman Bake Off – SCOTLAND IN SIX
Tue 18 April 2017, 18:00 – 21:00 BST
ROMANS VS. PICTS 5K
Grab your running shoes and prepare for battle at the Antonine Wall! We’re pitting Picts against Romans in an epic race to the finish line in partnership with the Falkirk Community Trust. With FREE blue facepaint for the Picts and helmets for the Romans, you’ll race around the beautiful grounds and forestry surrounding Callendar House, a mansion and museum which sits alongside the Antonine Wall. We’ll be supplying some accessories, but coming in costume is also highly encouraged.
We’ll be awarding winners for each category in the race, as well as ones for best costumes. Each participant will also walk away with the severed head of their enemies…just kidding! You’ll take home your very own participant medal.
Registration starts from 6pm and the race starts at 6.30pm. Prior to the event, we will be sending out bibs to time the race, so we ask that you include your address when you register. For course information, visit the parkrun website.*
GREAT ROMAN BAKE OFF
For families and friends (and hungry runners), Callendar House will play host to the Great Roman Bake Off. Attendees can indulge in some delicious treats and vote for their favourites at this Roman-themed bake sale. The museum will be open after hours for this mouth-watering event, so you can explore the true stories behind the Antonine Wall and those who built it.
No tickets are required for the Great Roman Bake Off. If you'd like to get involved, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Need some inspiration? CAVLP Heritage has a free Tasting Through Time cookbook with an entire Roman chapter!
Please note that photographs will taken during both events. If you would not like to be photographed, please speak to a member of staff.
Both the Romans and the Picts were great innovators, so we’re asking for a suggested donation of £5 to support a Falkirk Community Trust STEM project with local schools. Past, present and future will come together as we encourage a new generation of ingenuity! More information below:
A total of 8 high schools from the Falkirk council region will submit a team of 10 pupils to take part in a two day STEM challenge. They will navigate a variety of workshops set up to demonstrate a STEM discipline which contributed in the delivery of The Helix, and then present a project which with the aim of enhancing the site. A panel of experts will judge the projects and pick a winning team. Donations will help to make The Helix STEM Challenge a real hit in its first year!
If you have any questions about the Race, Bake Off or donation, you can email email@example.com.
