Event description

Description

This workshop is for Home Educated students.

An immersive workshop exploring one of Shakespeare’s best loved plays - Romeo and Juliet!

Take on the challenge of Romeo and Juliet
There’s no ‘happily ever after’ in this play!
From falling in the love with the wrong person, gang warfare and street fighting, plots that go wrong, and a tragic ending to finish it all off – you’ll love the drama of Romeo and Juliets story.

You’ll work with two professional actors in this relaxed and inclusive workshop.
Get to know the story of Romeo and Juliet, cast the characters, prepare and direct scenes, experiment with Shakespearean language, brush up your performance skills, get into costume and rehearse the Play.

To conclude our workshop we’ll present our version of Romeo and Juliet to a private audience of friends and family.

• Become familiar with the plot and characters of Romeo and Juliet
• Work in small groups to cast and rehearse key scenes
• A range of roles are available to everyone, including speaking parts large and small, to non-speaking, group roles and non-performing.
• We encourage and support everyone – the emphasis is having fun with Shakespeare, trying something new, supporting each other, and being inclusive – we are not aiming for a perfect final piece!
• Practice performance skills such as voice projection, breathing for acting, characterisation and stage fighting, and benefit from direction from our two professional actors
• Work with scripts in original Shakespearian language supported with modern translations so you understand what you’re saying!
• Learn how to act on a Shakespearean stage (as opposed to a modern proscenium arch stage)
• Experience the sheer joy of putting together a show in such a short space of time!
