Event description

Description

The HandleBards are the world’s first cycling theatre company. Before touring their “seriously silly” production of Romeo and Juliet around the world, they pedalled it 1500 miles around the UK by bicycle, with all the necessary set, props and costume in tow. Now, the show is back by popular demand - and, in usual HandleBards style, you can expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.

And what’s the play about? Well - Romeo and Juliet fall in love, despite the fact that both their families hate each other. Hilarity ensues... Well, sort of.

Join the HandleBards Girl troupe in the beautiful Walled Garden at Riverhill for Romeo and Juliet as you’ve never seen it before!

We open The Walled Garden at 5:30pm for you to take your seats on the grass terraces overlooking the staged area. We recommend that you bring a rug to sit on, and chairs are also permitted. You are most welcome to bring picnics. We will be offering Wine, Sparkling Wine, Beer, ice cream and other refreshments during the evening. We do not allow alcohol to be bought into the Walled Garden.

FAQs

Are children welcome at the event?

Yes, children are welcome, and tickets are available for children (age 4-16) at £10 each. Please do be considerate of our other guests when deciding to bring very young children.

What should I bring to the event?

Seating for the event is on the grassy terraces in our Walled Garden, so we recommend you bring a blanket to sit on. You may also bring chairs if you wish. As this is an outdoor event you should bring an extra layer of clothing as the air is likely to get chilly as the evening continues. Blankets are also a good idea. You should also consider checking the weather forecast in advance, and bringing an umbrella in the event of rain.

Due to the gradient of the path from the car park, we advise you to wear flat shoes. High heels are not suitable for this event.

You are welcome to bring a picnic to the event. We do not allow alcohol to be bought into the Walled Garden, but wine and beer will be available to purchase during the evening.

Is seating reserved?

No, seating is on the grassy terraces of The Walled Garden and is not reserved. The Walled Garden will be open from 5:30pm for guests to take their places on their own blankets or chairs.

How long is the performance?

The Walled Garden opens at 5:30pm for you to take your seats and get settled. The performance begins at 6:30pm, and lasts approximately 1hr and 45 minutes, with a 15 minute interval.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring either a print out of your email confirmation, or be prepared to show the email on your mobile device.

What happens if it rains?

If light showers are forecast the performance will continue. Please do check the weather forecast in advance, and remember to bring your umbrellas if required.

Performances are only cancelled in storm conditions. In the unfortunate event that a performance does need to be cancelled due to weather conditions, the decision will be made 30 minutes before curtain up. An announcement will be made to the audience within The Walled Garden and on Facebook.

What is the refund policy?

Unfortunately tickets are non-refundable.

If the performance is unfortunately cancelled due to storm conditions before the performance has started you will be offered a refund for your tickets. The decision to cancel the performance will not be made until 30 minutes before curtain up. If the decision is made to cancel the performance, an announcement will be posted on Facebook.

If the performance is unfortunately cancelled due to storm conditions after the performance has started you will be offered tickets to an alternative performance by The Handlebards, when possible. We will only be able to offer tickets to alternative performances where tickets are still available.

Is the event accessible?

Although The Walled Garden is accessible, please be aware that seating is on our grassy terraces, and that we do not currently have accessible toilet facilities.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Parking at Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is free. As you enter the Gardens our parking is sign-posted to your left. Please be aware that the car park is on a hill, so our gravel walk ways and paths are sloped. For accessible parking, please follow the signs down the drive towards Riverhill House.

For further information about how to get to Riverhill Himalayan Gardens, including public transport links, visit our website http://www.riverhillgardens.co.uk/new-findus.html

Can I come earlier?

Your ticket is for The Handlebards performance of 'A Midsummer's Night's Dream' in The Walled Garden and does not give you access to the rest of the Gardens. The Walled Garden opens at 5:30pm for you to take your seats, and the production starts at 6:30pm.

Can I bring my dog?

Although we welcome well behaved dogs on leads throughout the season, we are not able to accept dogs to this event. Assistance dogs are of course welcome.
