About this event
The world is an increasingly hostile place for anyone who is perceived as different. As a parent you may be worried about your child's safety, their mental health or wellbeing. This programme combines expert guidance, practical exercises, and a supportive community to empower you on your parenting journey.
We dive into the heart of cultural identity, building confidence, and fostering strong family connections, providing you with the actionable strategies needed to see real, positive change in your family dynamic.
This is for you if:
· You’re an adoptive, foster, or kinship carer of a family including a child of black, Asian, global majority heritage child.
· You want your child to feel proud of who they are — even when the outside world sends the opposite message.
· You worry you’re “getting it wrong” when it comes to culture, identity, or conversations about race.
· You’re craving support, real connection, and practical tools you can actually use in your parenting.
· You don’t want to do this alone — and you shouldn’t have to.
What you’ll get in the group:
• 6 powerful group sessions (90 minutes each) guided by Yoni, a registered social worker, qualified coach, and Black adult who was adopted into a white family.
• A trusted, confidential space to talk openly with others who get it — without judgment or shame.
• Practical tools and insight to help you raise a resilient child with a strong sense of identity and belonging.
• Two bonus trainings on identity and hair care — foundational topics for every adoptive parent.
• Guest Q&A with Natalya Afromusa, a hair and skincare expert rooted in Black culture and heritage.
• Ongoing access to training resources, with recordings, support materials, and specialist content created for trans-racial adopters.
The topics we’ll explore include:
• How and when children notice race — and what to say when they do
• Understanding your child’s identity journey (and your role in it)
• Talking about racism, bias, and history with honesty and care
• Helping your child navigate bullying, discrimination, and media representation
• Creating a culturally rich, loving home — even if it’s different from your own upbringing
• What to do when your child asks questions you’re scared to answer
Led by someone who truly understands — from both sides.
I’m Yoni.
I am Yoni, I myself was relingushed soon after birth, placed with respite foster carers who later adopted me. I am a grandmother and a passionate advocate of empowering adopters, foster and kinship carers.
Adopted into a white family, I’ve lived the experience of a trans-racial adoptee. I’ve also worked in children’s services for over 30 years. My former partner and I adopted two children when they were babies. Now in their twenties, I’ve seen the full arc of the adoptive parenting journey — the love, the learning curves, the mistakes, and the moments that change everything.
I created this group so you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I believe that every parent seeking knowledge, caring for a child from care or who was removed from birth family, is doing the best they can with the tools and support they have at their disposal. It is a supportive, nurturing space, where you can be honest, vulnerable and held by other parent.
