Roots of Our Freedom is a vibrant intergenerational arts project bringing together young people and elders from Newham to explore identity, ancestry, and lived experiences through creative expression. Through mindfulness art, planting, embroidery, photography, and cutting-edge virtual reality, participants will co-create powerful artworks and recordings that reflect the threads of heritage and the shared journey toward freedom.
This phase one project celebrates the wisdom of elders and the energy of youth, fostering meaningful dialogue across generations. Together, they will uncover personal and collective histories, honour cultural roots, and imagine futures grounded in resilience and connection.
The project will culminate in a finale public exhibition at The Gate Library in Forest Gate, showcasing the collaborative works and stories that emerged from this unique journey.
Roots of Our Freedom is a celebration of who we are, where we come from, and the freedom we continue to shape together in our community in the London Borough of Newham!
