Roots & Routines

Join us for a hands-on arts workshop that invites you to explore what culture means to you through creativity and natural materials.

Culture isn’t only found in traditions or celebrations, it’s woven into the everyday things we do: how we eat, speak, gather, rest, and care for one another. These daily cultural practices, whether inherited or chosen, shape how we see ourselves and can have a powerful impact on our mental and emotional well-being, both in positive and challenging ways.

In this workshop, we’ll explore these personal and shared cultural routines and consider how they support or strain our mental health. Through conversation, reflection, and making, we’ll look at the connections between culture, identity, and inner balance. We’ll begin with a grounding exercise, followed by a group dialogue about everyday cultural practices, and then translate those insights into visual art.

Participants will create their own canvases using natural materials such as flour, jute, and other earth-based elements, reconnecting with simple, sustainable processes rooted in tradition.

No prior art experience needed—just bring your stories, curiosity, and a willingness to get your hands a little messy!

The workshop is led by Pragya, a resident artist at Firefit. Her socially engaged practice focuses on mental health and draws from traditional art forms and creative heritage. She is currently exploring how to make participatory art more inclusive, affordable, and sustainable for all.

Photography and Filming take place during workshops and gallery opening times. Please let us know if you do not want to be on film. All material captured is used for either our social media or future promotion.

Firepit is a unique space, we have a gallery of beautiful and relevant art, artist studio spaces and a community event space. We will hold the workshop on a large communal table, next to the windows. You are in the heart of the gallery here and are surrounded by inspirational art.
