Ian Ayre, Former Chief Executive, Liverpool Football Club. Lecture 'Football - Past, Present and Future'.
Ian grew up in Kirkdale, Liverpool, Educated at Litherland High School, he left school aged 16 to pursue a career in the armed forces. Serving with the Royal Navy & Royal Marines, he served between 1979 & 1989. Upon leaving the military, Ian forged an early career in the communications industry. Initially working in a Satellite Televisions Systems business, Ian went on to be the Chief Executive of Pace Micro Technology, managing their Asian Manufacturing & Sales Operations. Following the successful IPO of Pace In the late 90’s, Ian was involved in the take over of Yorkshire based football club Huddersfield Town FC. Ian served as Chairman & Chief Executive of the club until 2001. In 2001 Ian was appointed as founding Managing Director of Premium TV Ltd. The company was established by NTL Inc and went on to successfully exploit the digital media rights of over 80 of the UK’s professional football teams. In early 2004 Ian returned to Asia to drive the rapid growth of an Asian based Sports Marketing business Total Sports Asia, spearheading the establishment of regional operations in Malaysia, Japan, India, China, UAE and Thailand. In 2007 Ian was approached by the then owners of Liverpool Football Club. He joined Liverpool in July 2007 and served with the club for 10 years as Commercial Director, Managing Director and Chief Executive. More recently Ian stepped down as Chief Executive at Liverpool FC and plans to take up a new challenge in the role of Chief Executive at German based Football Club 1860 Munich.
Ian has also served as Non Executive Chairman for the Mersey Partnership Visitor Economy and currently serves on the board of trustees for Hestia Careers, an organisation commited to providing employment .For young adults on Merseyside.
Ian lives with his partner Karen on the Wirral and in his spare time is keen motorcyclist and combines his love of motorbikes with a role as Sporting President of RC Express one of the leading Professional Motorcycle Road Racing teams in the world of motorsports.
