Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Our roses on the Savona estate are very old, but we love them. They have some amazing colour and fragrance, and they have history. We are going to give them some TLC, and learn how to prune them so that next year they will flourish. We will be under the guidance of expert gardener Lou Yates. We will also mulch (to help improve the soil and give them some nutrition), and do some underplanting of bulbs and ground cover plants.

We expect this to take all day so will meet at the ROSE centre for coffee and breakfast at 10am, and then head over to start gardening at 10.30. You can pop in any time during the day just for an hour or so if you prefer. We will break for a home-cooked lunch (this is going to be good...) back at the ROSE centre and then carry on through the afternoon, welcoming those who have been at school all day for the last hour, when they help plant some of the final bulbs.

You will be an expert on roses after this day! Please note this is the right time to prune roses hard - they will be dormant and the cold weather will stop pests and diseases getting into fresh cuts.

This will also help improve the gardens for local residents, and it will be chance to get some fresh air and connect with nature, benefiting your own health and wellbeing. Gloves will be provided but please wear warm clothes and good shoes.
