Rose Wylie is an artist whose prolific and raw and honest work combines pure visual expression with written language. Her work is multiscale and often combines found materials and available resources. She creates banner-like or poster-like images whose visibility say “look at me, don’t look away” and draw a lot from images we see in everyday life. Being compared to life in adverts or life that imitates art is an endless source of inspiration for Wylie whose work is also based on observation and memory. She is 90 years old and is a practising artist based in Kent, England. Her work can be seen all over the world, in big galleries. Herself lives very modestly and in the past worked as an arts teacher. She is a painter who draws and also makes sculptures.

When you see any footage of yourself at her studio you quickly notice how her studio space becomes a work of art and how her paintings absorb traces of life events, conversations, anecdotes, memories, surprises.

We will be drawing from photographs and will interpret some life events or memories of them that are unique to each one of us.

We will do several exercises in this class so please prepare the following:

We suggest the materials below but you can join with anything you have.

You can always invest / search for new materials after the class if you wish and draw along again with the recording access!

• Cardboard, paper bags, various sorts of found paper in different sizes, envelopes, receipts adverts, newspapers
• Watercolours or poster paint or acrylic / something you are comfortable to work with
• White opaque paint
• Dishes for water and tissues
• Crayons and pastels
• Paintbrushes
• Scissors
• Glue or tape

This class is suitable for all levels!

Tickets:

We suggest an amount of £20. However, we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on this basis whilst also giving our tutors a sustainable wage.

There is also a ticket option to "Pay It Forward" to support us and our students! We offer classes for free to those who can't afford the minimum amount (If this is you please email us to join for free). This continues to ensure our classes are available to everyone!

Once booked:

You will receive a confirmation email and be able to access information on how to join the event via your eventbrite "Online Event Page" You can access this by signing into eventbrite or creating an account using the email address that you booked with.

In the Class:

You can't be seen or heard in our classes, your audio and video are automatically turned off and there's no way these can be turned on. You can talk to us and others in the class in the chat box!

About the Tutor:

Karolina Glusiec-A multidisciplinary artist based in Deptford, south-east London, UK whose practice emerges from drawing and animation branching out into mixed media, structural and site specific objects and artworks. She is also a teacher and runs dept.con.temporary art gallery together with Jamie Temple from their flat in London. She won Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2012.
