Event Details

ROSS conf Amsterdam is the 3rd edition of the ROSS conf format.

ROSS conf Amsterdam gives (Ruby) open source software maintainers the platform to introduce their project to an audience of first time as well as existing contributors. After 15 minute introductions to the project, pressing issues and requests, the conference day is reserved for hands-on programming (or contributing through updating documentation or adding artwork) and pairing with the maintainers. To conclude the conference the maintainers present data on bugs fixed, issues assigned, contributions made etc.

Zachary Scott (Ruby core team) about his ROSS conf experience:
"We had a strong team with contributors from a variety of backgrounds. We received 3 patches, 1 bug fix, and 1 feature, all in the course of just one day. I couldn't be more pleased!"

Confirmed projects:

Exercism is a programming exercise platform with over 350 contributors primarily maintained by Katrina Owen, a polyglot developer and Ruby Hero award winner.

RVM was the first version manager allowing you to switch between Ruby versions and separate project gems. Today RVM is still leading in this area, with Michal Papis working on version 2.0.

Ruby package manager for macOS Homebrew will be represented by core team member Alyssa Ross.

Traveling Ruby
Traveling Ruby lets you create self-contained Ruby app packages for Windows, Linux and OS X. Traveling Ruby will be represented by Hongli Lai.

Rails Girls
After an introduction by one of Rails Girls' initiators, Linda Liukas, the aim is to separate out a dynamic events app.

ROSS conf Amsterdam is powered by Phusion Passenger and GitHub
We're looking for more sponsors, please reach out to the organizers if your team would like to get involved!

Past editions in Vienna, Austria and Berlin, Germany, hosted Michal Papis (RVM), Katrina Owen ( and Zachary Scott (Ruby core), among others. ROSSConf is deliberately small to allow for interaction, 60 participants (including maintainers, orgs and coaches) tops. We ask for a deposit which registrees get back upon attendance.
