Event description

Description

Welcome to our speaking event.

You will hear directly from two child abuse and domestic violence survivors. Rachel and Chloe will talk through some of the horrific experiences they faced at the hands of some of the most prolific criminals in the UK in order to improve understanding by all professionals on grooming and abuse.

Rachel, who only recently spoke out about her abuse will speak of how at the age of 12 she was groomed and abused. Abuse which continued until adulthood.

Chloe, not recognising her abuse until recently, is now fighting for justice while also fighting her abuser in the family courts to keep her four children safe.

The topics to be discussed will include grooming, abuse, mental and physical health, addiction, education, policing, social care, family courts, the justice system.

There will be other topics regarding both historic and current failings that we are still facing now on a daily basis such as protecting the children of survivors whose fathers are the perpetrators who, on a daily basis are still mentally abusing and grooming our children. Our children still need protecting from the perpetrators which is just one of the many impacts of CSE/DVA and this is why we need to raise awareness.

This speaking event will benefit any survivors, professionals who work with survivors of grooming and abuse or anyone who works with young people and adults who may be vulnerable or not to abuse. This event will help raise awareness of these issues and help recognise the signs of the grooming process.

As survivors and campaigners we feel that by speaking out about our experiences it will help raise awareness and by listening to survivors speak first hand will highlight the abuse and grooming process and which will hopefully encourage more victims to come forward. By speaking about our experiences from a survivors point of view it will help professionals understand what victims go through and may help other victims come forward and we can enable them to seek the justice, care and support they need and deserve.

In 2014 Rotherham became headline news for the wrong reasons now we want to put Rotherham in a more positive light by educating and raising awareness of CSE and DVA and hopefully by standing together we can help put an end to this crime.

Over recent years we have formed a group made up of survivors who give talks around the UK about our experiences. We have also worked with the Suzy Lamplugh's trust, national institute of licensing, along with other agencies through our campaigning work. We have also given talks at numerous events throughout the UK for TACT Fostering agency as part of their safeguarding training.

Recently we won a 'National Safety award' for our campaigning around 'Safer Taxis', our group helped shape the new Taxi licensing laws ensuring that all taxis have to be fitted with CCTV and Audio in Rotherham.

If you or your organisation are interested in this event, or interested in adding information for our information packs, please contact me we would love to hear from you and would be happy if you could please forward this email to anyyou think may be interested in this event raising awareness of CSE and DVA.
