Description

On 14 June 2019 SP Broadway is hosting a Politics of Planning breakfast roundtable with Cllr Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council.

Cllr Ward was first elected in 1995, representing Shard End ward in the east of the Metropolitan area. He served as Deputy Leader of the Council from 2012 to September 2017, and has led Birmingham City since.

Birmingham is undergoing extensive redevelopment, following the expansion and transformation strategies set out in the 2011 Big City Plan. This includes a £1.5bn mixed-use revamp of Smithfield, the Commonwealth Games village and subsequent conversion into 1,400 new homes, £500m investment to expand the airport, and comprehensive redevelopment of the National Exhibition Centre, which will deliver significant economic benefits to east Birmingham.

In May 2018 the Labour Party was returned once again as the largest party on the Council, with a majority of 33. Their manifesto, championed by Cllr Ward, pushed for more investment in the City as it continues to expand and closes in on the Commonwealth Games 2022, including the delivery of 8,000 homes during the four-year electoral term.

SP Broadway is delighted to welcome Cllr Ward to our Politics of Planning roundtable, for a discussion on the ambitious planning, development and infrastructure plans in Birmingham. We hope you will join us, to learn more about the future of the City and offer your feedback.
