Description

On 24 April 2019 SP Broadway is hosting a Politics of Planning Breakfast Roundtable with Cllr Mark Dance, Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development, and Cllr Mike Whiting, Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Planning & Highways.

Cllr Dance was first elected to Kent County Council in 1997, having previously served on Swale Borough Council. He was appointed Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development in 2012, and is currently a Board Member of the Thames Gateway Kent Partnership and East Kent Regeneration Board.

Cllr Whiting initially served as a Kent County Councillor from 2009 to 2013, holding the Education portfolio during this time. He was re-elected in 2017, and less than a year later appointed Cabinet Member for Planning, Highways, Transport and Waste. He currently sits on Swale Borough Council, representing Teynham and Lynsted ward (between Sittingbourne and Faversham).

Kent County Council is one of the largest authorities in England by population served, and it holds an ambitious programme for housebuilding. As many as 7 new garden cities could come forward over the next couple of decades, including 15,000 homes at Ebbsfleet, 12,000 at Folkestone and 4,000 on the outskirts of Canterbury. A great deal of investment is set to be captured through the Lower Thames Crossing, dubbed the UK's largest road upgrade since the M25.

SP Broadway is delighted to welcome Cllrs Dance and Whiting, for what will surely be a great discussion about the future of the Garden of England.
