Rowan McCabe- The Door-to-Door Poet Book Launch + Special Guests @ The Cluny 2
Newcastle’s favourite poetic mischief maker returns to The Cluny 2 to celebrate the release of his brand-new book, The Door-to-Door Poet.
Rowan McCabe is a poet and performer who has written for Channel 4, Radio 3’s ‘The Verb’ and the National Trust. He has appeared on stages across the UK, including at Glastonbury Festival and the Royal Albert Hall.
One day Rowan started knocking on strangers’ doors and offering to write a poem for them, for free, on any subject of their choosing. He tried this in his home suburb of Heaton. Nobody punched him in the face. Emboldened, he set off on a tour across England, which included visits to Moss Side in Manchester, Jaywick in Essex and the isolated island of Lundy. The project has been featured in the Guardian, on BBC Breakfast was named ‘Best of Today’ on Radio 4.
Join Rowan for a very special evening as he celebrates the release of his long-awaited new book The Door-to-Door Poet (Eye Books). A mixture of poems old and new, Rowan will be lifting the lid on the highs and lows of this unusual career choice, as well as sharing the inspiring and often laugh-out-loud stories of the residents he met along the way.
