Description

One of Britain's most well-known racecourses, Ascot, holds a special week of races in June each year called Royal Ascot. It is attended by the Queen, who has had an interest in horses since childhood. The Queen arrives in a horse drawn carriage at 2pm, with the Royal Procession.

Queen arriving at Royal Ascot

This week has become Britain's most popular race meeting, welcoming around 300,000 visitors over five days. The Queen is owner and breeder of many thoroughbred horses.

What is Ladies Day or the Gold Cup?

What is now known as Royal Ascot started to take shape when The Gold Cup was first run in 1807. It is Ascot’s oldest surviving race. The winning owners still receive a gold trophy to keep. Colloquially known as ‘Ladies’ Day,’ a term first used in 1823, when an anonymous poet described the Thursday of the Royal Meeting as "Ladies’ Day … when the women, like angels, look sweetly divine." Thursday is vibrant and celebratory. It is a superb occasion.

Ascot Ladies Day

Royal Ascot is as much about the social occasion as it is the racing and with a rhythm of the day that allows plenty of time to catch up with friends, grab a bite to eat or share a glass of Champagne between racing.

What does The Queen do at Ascot?

Her day begins with the Royal procession, when the Queen and accompanying members of the Royal Family arrive along the track in horse-drawn landaus. They then spend the day watching the races from the Royal Enclosure.

Why did we choose the Queen Anne Enclosure at Ascot?

Named in honour of the racecourse’s founding monarch, Queen Anne. The Queen Anne Enclosure allows you to watch the world’s most famous race meeting from the epicentre of Royal Ascot.

You will have access to the pre-race and post-race Parade Ring and the Winners’ Enclosure. You will be right in the heart of the action. With access to the elegant Champagne bars and tea rooms within the beautifully manicured Queen Anne Lawns, the atmospheric raised terraces from where to watch the Royal Procession and world-class racing followed by the uplifting tradition of singing around the Bandstand; this enclosure allows you to tailor your ideal day. We believe that the Queen Anne Enclosure gives the visitor the best experience.

Dress Code in the Queen Anne Enclosure?

Not as formal as in the Royal Enclosure, yet the Dress Code here is followed with confidence. Serving military personnel are welcome to wear Service Dress or equivalent. In addition, overseas visitors are welcome to wear the formal National Dress of their country or Service Dress. It is important to note that, fancy dress, novelty and branded/promotional clothing are not allowed on site. Otherwise, the Dress Code is as follows:
