Event description

Description

Organisations are becoming increasingly reliant on data, affecting our everyday lives, activities and communities in new and unexpected ways. Data-enabled technologies can stimulate innovation, provide evidence for research, deliver societal benefits and increase productivity. Current and future jobs are increasingly reliant on data handling and data manipulation techniques. Do your students have these skills?

Aimed at both primary and secondary (5-18 years) teachers in the UK, this event will explore the theme of using ‘big data in the classroom’. Teachers will be guided through what big data is, why data manipulation is a vital skill for students, and receive some practical training in the sourcing and handling of data to support the curriculum. The event aims to build subject knowledge to support the curriculum, help develop professional networks and provide free resources that can be used to stretch and challenge able students.

This event is most suitable for those teaching mathematics, computing, biology, geography, chemistry, physics or any other subjects that use data sets.

Attendees to this CPD who are members of the Royal Society Schools Network can additionally claim up to £150 to help towards travel or teacher cover costs (with proof of expenses) for the day.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is free to attend, but we are asking for a £20 refundable deposit to ensure that we are able to accommodate as many people as possible on the day and avoid a large number of short notice cancellations.

Privacy policy: We will be contacting you, only in respect of this event, with further details and joining instructions. Please refer to our privacy policy for more information relating to how the Royal Society will use your data.
